Truffles are a wonderful delicacy, so we are sure that customers will enjoy exploring the different types in one place. And, we can’t wait to see how this business develops!

We have a dedicated commercial team who will work with the tenant to ensure that they meet all legal and compliance requirements for the project. We believe working together is key, so we commit to providing our support and expertise to fulfil all requirements.

“My client is investing close to £250k in the refurbishment and extension of his business, making 6-8 Cale Street a fantastic modern high specification Grocers and a unique and beautiful store. He’s installing handcrafted atrium-style shelving by carpenter Paul Carr. Artworks lent from Sloane Street Auctions will be on display. The equipment will include a £26k automated charcuterie slicer and the Chesterfield with chaise longue leather customer seating.”

What are truffles?

Truffles are edible spores that grow on an underground fungus in the family of Tuberaceae. They’re often confused with mushrooms, but they’re not the same species — mushrooms grow above ground, while truffles grow below.

Considered a gourmet delicacy by many in the culinary world, truffles take a lot of work to source and also lose their potency quickly after they’ve been picked. These factors make them one of the most pricey foods in the world. Depending on the variety (Italian white truffles are generally the most expensive), they can sell for as much as $4,000 a pound.

Truffles are grown and harvested worldwide and grow around tree roots in damp areas.

Female pigs were traditionally used to hunt for truffles for two reasons: They have a refined sense of smell, and truffles contain androstenol, a hormone found in the saliva of male pigs.

Dogs are typically used to find truffles these days. Canines, once trained, are less likely than pigs to eat the truffles once they sniff them out.
